Melbourne's water, and what it means for your shower
Free chlorine is comparatively straightforward to address. The KDF-55 and calcium sulfite stages reduce it through a redox reaction as water passes through, and they keep working at shower temperature where carbon-only filters can fade.
One thing to check in your suburb
In Melbourne's western growth suburbs - Tarneit, Werribee, Point Cook, Melton and Sunbury - supply comes from Greater Western Water and is chloraminated. The four-stage cartridge helps reduce chloramine there too, so the same filter works whichever disinfectant reaches your tap.
Confirm it for your own street
Treatment varies by retailer, suburb, zone and season. The definitive source is the retailer named on your water bill.

What we claim, and what we don't
We say: the four-stage media reduces chlorine and helps reduce chloramine.
We don't say: that it removes either one, or quote a percentage. Contact time in a shower is short and performance varies with your water - a number would imply a precision we haven't independently verified.
On certification: the KDF-55 media is certified to NSF/ANSI 42. The finished filter is not NSF certified.
